Match verdict by Hughie Southon

That was so much better as Tomas grabbed his 27th birthday goal and David Moyes produced some tactical decisions which really worked.

Congratulations go to the boss who effectively went two up with Mikey and Jarrod,  giving the number nine opportunities he has been craving.

He may still need a goal but he looked the Mikey of old – good stuff gaffer!

The manager also pushed Manu Lanzini in behind the two of them and played Pablo Fornals on the left wing in a series of tactical moves which left the opposition bemused.

Tomas appeared – certainly in the early part of the game – to have been given a more forward role and, with Declan always ready to attack, we looked the part again.

At the back against one of the least offensive sides in the league Daws and Zouma had decent afternoons as the tactical changes Tomas had spoken of ion the week came good against a team who now sit five points behind us .

A clean sheet, three points and a far better performance was precisely what we craved and got and thankfully it looks as though there were no further injuries ahead against Saints n the FA Cup on Wednesday evening.

This was the Hammers we had become used to seeing earlier in the season and we have to give a big nod to the boss for recognising problems and putting them right.

At this point in the season – with so many tough matches ahead – it was precisely the confidence boosting result er we needed.

Moysie got everything spot on!
