Neutral ground rebel clubs grows to seven

Southampton are believed to be the latest club to join the bottom six outfits opposed to playing games on neutral grounds.

This comes amid alleged suggestions from the top clubs that the bottom six are attempting to sabotage the Premier League’s plans to get things underway again.

ClaretandHugh understands that Saints -in 14th place on 34 points – are unhappy with the plan which would rob them – like the others – of any home advantage over the final nine matches.

It means that hopes of pushing the plan through are hanging by a thread as with seven rebel clubs now understood to be opposed. That would see any move to push things through defeated with a majority of 14 required.

However, should the League be cancelled as a result it doesn’t follow that teams would not be relegated with those clubs now in the bottom three – Norwich, Villa and Bournemouth – the likely victims.

And were that to happen it would of course allow promotion from the Championship.
