Gary Neville has been singing Andy Carroll’s praises after the back to form and fitness striker hot the net on Sunday.

The former Manchester United defender and England coach was deeply impressed and had some wondering whether an international recall could be on the cards.

Speaking on the Monday night football programme on Sky Sports, he said:  “He was a big investment, he’s got to stay fit. With Carroll, Sakho and Valencia, West Ham have a big threat. Sam’s best teams always have a physicality about them.

“It was his fourth game back, and he’s a real handful at his best. He messes defenders about.”

Neville went onto show highlights clips looking at how the striker hangs back on the edge of the box in open play and set pieces allowing him a run at crosses, rather than staying around the six yard box and allowing defenders to grapple with him, describing his approach as ‘clever’.
