The Guardian is reporting that whilst Darren Randolph’s injury isn’t considered bad enough to stop his return to the Hammers the club is treading with caution on completing the deal.

And it adds that he could have to return to Middlesbrough for further rehabilitation ahead of a £4 million move to east London.

Randolph has made it clear he favours a reunion with West Ham, who are keen to sign a new No 2 goalkeeper.

They suffered when Fabianski was out with a hip injury earlier and with Roberto failing to impress the Spaniard fell below David Martin in the pecking order and is up for sale.

However, Martin was never see as anything other than a number three whose major responsibility was for training ground activities and the new manager feels that a fully experienced No 2 is required in the shape of Randolph if the deal can be completed.

Moyes is unlikely to make any moves for ‘marquee’ signings this month as January transfers rarely throw up top players who are usually involved in promotion – or indeed – relegation issues in some cases.

The Guardian add that attempts to bolster their midfield by signing Benfica’s Gedson Fernandes on an 18-month loan with an option to buy have stalled.

Moyes is claimed to hold a strong interest in Stoke’s Joe Allen, though an agreement over a fee for the Wales midfielder is some way off.

Stoke want around £12m for Allen, but West Ham aim to negotiate a lower price at around £8 million – similar to that paid for Robert Snodgrass under Slaven Bilic.

The Hammers are also understood to be in the market for a striker and will entertain bids for the likes of Albian Ajeti and Carlos Sanches.
