One of West Ham’s most notorious football fans of the seventies and eighties stopped to help out with the Irons Supporting Foodbanks last night.

Bill Gardner offered his help for half an hour before the Carabao Cup game to collect food and money for those less fortunate.

He was answering a plea from foodbank founder John Ratomski who said on social media If you fancy volunteering with us for half an hour or before any other game just drop us a line or stop by for a chat from 5 pm”

Earlier this year Bill  set the record straight in a new autobiography saying that he wasn’t a “hooligan” or a “gangster” but a “survivor”

Gardner, from Hornchurch, says football saved him from a life of abuse and crime and gave him a family he never had.

In Bill Gardner: The Man, The Myth, The Legend, written with Abe Atchia, he reveals all about men’s mental health, sticking up for your friends and the West Ham football family.
