Pedro Obiang has insisted he will fight for his place at West Ham this season despite being tipped for a summer exit over concerns about regular game time last season.

Speaking to Argentian journalist and friend, Borga Matias from Seattle yesterday on twitter Obiang said: “I am trying to earn a place here (at West Ham) and learn football. I think this year will be very good.”

The vast majority of West Ham supporters also want Pedro Obiang to stay this season, a poll conducted by Claret and Hugh last month revealed that eighty-one per cent of Hammers fans think Obiang should stay and fight for his place.

Although Obiang had 24 appearances last season, he started in just eleven of these and he remained on the pitch for the full 90 minutes on just six occasions.  The 24-year-old joined the Irons from Serie A side Sampdoria last summer on a five-year contract for a transfer fee believed to be £4.3 million.
