Official: Diafra Sakho has left the building
Whufc.com says: “The 28-year-old departs east London after three-and-a-half seasons in Claret and Blue, during which he scored 24 goals in 71 first-team appearances. After joining from Metz in summer 2014, Sakho started his Hammers career well, scoring in on his first six Premier League starts to equal a record, winning the top-flight’s Player of the Month award in October of the same year.
However, injuries and competition for places have restricted the Senegal international’s appearances over the last two years, and he has started just two Premier League matches since the start of the 2016/17 season.
West Ham would like to thank Diafra for his efforts and wish him well for his future career.”
Sakho told his new club’s website “I am very happy to join Stade Rennais FC and Ligue 1. I never wanted to join another club than Rennes. The President (Olivier Létang) has worked hard for my coming. I felt it and his speech convinced me to join the club. It is a historic club, structured with great ambitions. I also spoke with the coach (Sabri Lamouchi) and talked about the sports project. It’s a great joy and a great pride to join Stade Rennais FC. I hope to bring my qualities to the group and participate in the success of the club in the second half of the season and for the next. “
West Ham originally paid £3.5m for Sakho from Metz in 2014 which later rose to £4.5m with add-ons.
The undisclosed fee is thought to be £4.5m which means West Ham break even with a further £3.5m of add-ons based on goals and appearances.
