One Irons image shows how the game has changed

The image above courtesy of Old London Photographs shows how the game has changed out of all recognition over the last 50 years plus and not for the better.

Can anyone imagine David Moyes sitting waiting for a tube to take him back to the club with the FA Cup under his arm.

Well that was the very ordinary situation facing Hammers legendary manager Ron Greenwood when the Irons won the cup in the May of 1964 beating Preston North End following an epic semi final victory over Manchester United.

Instead of a luxury journey back home the Hammers boss of the time tucked the FA Cup under his coat as he waited for the underground.

Ron was a magnificent manager who has been credited with developing the near post corner which was taken up by Alf Ramsey as England went on to win the World Cup under Mooro a couple of years later.

But in this photo we see how humble but incredibly important football remained as a game before so many millions of £s entered the game and changed it forever.

Love the woman’s expression sitting alongside!
