West Ham’s new home could be known as the Tesco Stadium after reports emerged that the supermarket giant is poised to join the race to secure the naming rights for the Kondon Stadium.

Owners E20 Stadium LLP had been expected to complete a £6million deal with Indian company, the Mahindra Group, a technology giant and car maker but the deal is still not signed months later. Mahindra Tech won the deal to supply free WIFI throughout the stadium from October.

The Daily Mail claims there is uncertainty surrounding the pending deal with the period of exclusivity with Mahindra due to expire in August. The naming rights deal with Mahindra was set to be announced in May but has been delayed several times because the sponsorship market is in flux.

If Mahindra do not not sign on the dotted line it is thought Tesco is believed keen to immediately open talks with the stadium owners about sponsoring the London Stadium. Under the terms of West Ham’s concession agreement, the club are entitled to 50 per cent of the annual revenue from naming rights above the initial £4m so would receive £1m from any £6m deal.
