Former Hammer Reece Oxford suffered a tough start to revive his career in Germany as his side lost 5-1 on the opening day of Bundesliga. Oxford was forced to watch in horror as his Augsburg side went 4-1 down to Borussia Dortmund before he finally came on as a late a substitute in the 77th minute.

The damage had already been done by then and Augsburg conceded another goal with Oxford on the pitch to make the result at the final whistle 5-1 leaving Augsburg just off the bottom of the table.

Oxford joined the German club permanently over the summer while taking a significant pay cut from his £20,000 per week he enjoyed at West Ham. The Hammers decided to cut their losses with the 20-year-old Academy graduate while his £2.1m transfer was used to pay off the player and his agent in compensation.

Augsburg faces Union Berlin this Saturday and Oxford will hoping for a start in the team and a better defensive display from his teammates.
