French website FranceFoorball.Fr claims that Payet’s wife, mother, Marseille’s manager and Patrice Evra all played a part in turning Dimi’s head to return to Marseille.

The article claims Payet’s wife Ludivine put pressure on his husband after multiplying her round trips between southern France and London since September last year.

They then claim Marseille’s manager Rudi Garcia courted Payet more than two months on the telephone to encourage him to return.

Behind the scenes,  they say Payet’s French agent Jacques-Olivier Auguste played his role with Marseille while also trying to control the media with frequent briefings to the press. They say Dimi’s mum Michelle Payet was also consulted who told her son she favored moving his young family back to France.

Probably the most interesting revelation is the role Patrice Evra played. Even though the former Juventus player had not yet signed or Marseille it appears he played a key role in turning Payet’s head.

It is reported he exchanged telephone calls with Payet several times and it was he that strongly recommended that Payet return to Marseille. The two men allegedly met in France when the persuasion continued it is alleged.

Last Wednesday Patrice Evra left Juventus to join Marseille on a  18 month contract through to the summer of 2018.
