Payet now really is better than Zidane

As the now famous Payet song goes “We’ve got Payet, Dimitri Payet! I just don’t think you understand. He’s Super Slav’s man, he’s better than Zidane. We’ve got Dimtri Payet!”

Well it turns out the song is true and he is now better than French legend Zinedine Zidane!

Payet has already had a hand in three goals in the Euro 2016 competition (two goals, one assist) after just two opening games, the  most for a French player in the Euro finals since Zinedine Zidane in 2004 (also three).

Payet created eight chances against Romania in the opening game whilst every other French player on the pitch combined created nine in total.  Only three players had created more chances in a Euro final game (Ozil & Sneijder in the 2012 finals & McAllister in 1992 finals).

Dimitri Payet has now scored or assisted 6 goals in his last 5 appearances for France (4 goals, 2 assists)

No wonder he is being hailed as the player of the tournament by UEFA and has two man of the matches to his name from two appearances! Not bad for a player who couldn’t get into the French team when he first joined West Ham.
