Pellegrini rejects the desperation

Calm down everybody!

Manuel Pellegrini refuses to lose his cool in the face of adversity.

Indeed there was a moment in his press conference when he sounded almost Kiplingesque when declaring you simply can’t become desperate in the face of adversity.

Knowing that some on social media have been calling for his head, he could easily have repeated the famous words: If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs and blaming it on you, you’ll be a man my son.”

And as he heads for Burnley at the weekend he made it clear you must always enjoy the winning but refuse to become desperate when you are not.

Good philosophy, good words but he knows there has to be a vast improvement from his players when they step out at Turf Moor.

Quite how he changes things – if at all – remains to be seen but one player who remains a doubt is Jack Wilshere with the manager declaring he will be checked tomorrow.

He said: ““When you don’t win, you must review everything: the starting XI, how you played, the substitutions during the game, and how you prepared during the week – and when you win, also.

In this profession you must always be pleased a bit when you are winning, and not be desperate when you are not.”
