West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini says he is happy with the style of football his team are playing but agreed they needed to stop conceding so many goals and become more accurate with finishing.

The gaffer was speaking to reporters during the Everton Pre-Match press conference at Rush Green today in which he said “This style of football I am very pleased, we scored a beautiful goal against Palace.

We have more shots on target, so I think that, especially for the fans, we are selling them a good product. The players are happy, I am happy.

We need to stop conceding so many goals, we have conceded two in each of the last two games.

We need to create as much as we can and be more accurate with our finishing.

We need to be clear about what we are doing well, what we are doing wrong. Ambitious, have a winning mentality and trust in what we are doing”

ClaretandHugh says: It’s encouraging and quite right that the manager should be discussing our strengths and weaknesses publicly – which is not something you normally hear from bosses generally. And of course he has nailed it – too loose at the back, not sharp enough up front which to put it mildly kind of sums up our issues.  I think he could also have pointed out that there’s a lot of inconsequential sideways and backwards passing and that we need to be a lot quicker across the ground. But, in fairness, if we look at ourselves at the same time last year it is clear that we are a quickly improving team. The lack of finishing power is frustrating but in general terms the boss has nailed the issues and it’s now down to those going onto the pitch who need to get their acts together for 90 minutes – not for 20 minutes at a time.
