Pellegrini targets top ten finish

Manuel Pellegrini told reporters at today’s lunchtime press conference that a top ten finish would be acceptable in his first season in charge.

Pellegrini told the media: “We need to be a more consistent team and there are lots of things we need to improve. We must go game by game and try to beat every opponent. To be nearer the top is what we want. I will be disappointed if I review the season and I thought we could have done better. But we must think about the amount of players we have injured, along with the other things that happened during the season, when we make our review.

“We are in a position with five or six other teams, so we must see if we can finish above them and find out where we can finish this season. I never put a target before the start but after our start and with our injuries, if we finish in the top ten it will be acceptable
, but we must try to win the most amount of points and after that, we’ll see where we are.”

Pellegrini himself has never finished outside the top six as a manager but he is realistic enough to know a top-six finish is all but out of reach this season. Wolves are flying high in seventh place leaving Watford, Everton, Bournemouth, Leicester and West Ham all fighting for the eighth place at the moment.

West Ham are currently in twelfth place on 32 points with a goal difference of -7 on the same points as Leicester City.
