Manuel Pellegrini has admitted he was upset in the way West Ham defended against Liverpool on Sunday at Anfield but said he was equally unhappy with the way we attacked and lacked possession.

He told reporters: “I was so upset with the way we defended and I was not happy with the way we attacked. We didn’t have good possession of the ball, so we need to improve in that.

Everyone knows we had a difficult start, but nobody accepts that we should lose 4-0,.

So we need to analyse the game, continue working and then start thinking about Bournemouth at home because we must target the three points.”

Pellegrini expects his teams to keep the majority possession of the ball even when away from home, telling his players if the opposition don’t have the ball they can’t score. He will also work with his players this week in training on practising his high his line defensive line on the edge of the 18-yard box which left the Hammers unstuck at times at Anfield.
