New Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini wants to convince the West Ham owners to buy a really big name in order to attract other major players to the club.

He gave former Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy – who he took to Malaga – as an example and clearly hopes he can repeat the act at the London Stadium.

Speaking to the South American media he said (and this is an approximate translation from Spanish by @WestHamSocial): “We’re trying to get the owner to loosen up to make an important investment and bring the players we need – the idea is to sign a great player. It’s very important for the status of the club, because that will help convince other players.”

Obviously, some sayings do not translate well from one language to another and sometimes it can be taken out of context but it appears that Pellegrini has ambitious plans and wants to the owners to invest big.

The manager added that he understood he had around $80 million based on what he had read in the English press.
