Player abuse – It doesn’t help!

West Ham fans waited to ambush Andy Carroll as he came out of Vicarage Road ground on Sunday to give him verbal abuse after the two-nil defeat.

It came after away fans booed players during the game and sung ‘You’re not fit to wear the shirt’ during the game.

Many West Ham players are constantly trolled on social media while some say they have been abused while out in restaurants or out in public with their families.

My question to these fans is what do you want to achieve from this abuse? Do you feel your actions will somehow motivate these players to play better or fight for the badge and club more?

Yes, they are highly paid professionals but they are also human beings and to suggest this constant abuse has no effect on their performances on the pitch is naive at best.

We have to remember the players are not West Ham fans, they are athletes who want the best for their careers. They need our support and appreciation to get the best out of them.

Whatever we might think of certain individual players and their lack of commitment it should be up to our manager to sort it out and decide who gets to wear the shirt and not make matters worse by abusing them in public at every opportunity!
