Gonzo hands out the marks

Areola:6 Amazing reactions to make an important save after only 5 mins, then called into action again a few minutes later. Had to deal with a couple of long-range efforts. Could have communicated much better for the Aguerd own goal.

Johnson:8 Possibly West Ham’s busiest player in the first half and made a brilliantly timed tackle on Garnacho. Impressive defending on multiple occasions.

Ogbonna:8 Read the game incredibly well and ran from defence to intercept on numerous occasions.

Aguerd:3 Barely noticed him in the first half which I guess is a good thing. Scored an own goal. His poor clearance led to Man U’s 2nd and he lost the ball for their 3rd. Bad day at the office.

Emerson:8 Seemed to get the better of £80m man Antony early in the game. Quick thinking for the Benrahma goal when Man United had gone to sleep. Certainly his best performance at left back.

Rice:7 Continued his good form from the Forest win. Numerous interceptions and driving runs. Led the team really well.

Soucek:8 Licence to get forward again and was unlucky not to score early on. Cleared the ball off the line in the 36th min. Forced De Gea into a save early in the second half. His best game for a while

Paqueta:7 Always looking to create. He’d be transformed with quicker players to pick-out. Linked incredibly well with Benrahma.

Fornals:6 Worked hard but he’s wasted in an attacking position due to his lack of instinct and pace. Shot just wide in the second half. Helped Johnson out where possible.

Benrahma:9 Magnificent ball for Antonio which was unfortunately squandered. Some excellent dribbles and runs caused Dalot problems. Created another good chance for Paqueta. Outstanding in the first half and began the second with a strike of pure finesse to score the opening goal.

Antonio:6 One good cross for Soucek but his technique let him down early on. Missed a wonderful one on one chance to put the Hammers ahead. Wasted another wonderful opportunity to make it 2-0. Amazing energy and work-rate.

Bowen: Replaced Fornals in the 73rd min

Scamacca: 85th min sub for Antonio
