Gonzo hands out the marks

Fabianski:6 Hard to rate. Aside from picking the ball out of his new twice at the beginning of the game, Fabianski had very little to do.

Coufal:8 Such a tough task having to mark the excellent Martinelli but eventually got to grips with his man. His throw-ins caused Arsenal’s defence a lot of problems.

Zouma:8 Under pressure for long periods of the game, made some excellent clearances.

Kehrer:7 Nervous start as he immediately passed the ball to White in a dangerous area. Made some decent tackles thereafter and created a goal for Jarrod Bowen. Some impressive moments.

Cresswell:6 Caught ball watching early on and had poor communication with Benrahma for both early goals. Targeted by Arsenal, completely unable to lock down his side of the defence. Would have been pleased as West Ham grew into the game and lessened his defensive duties. Not all bad though, Cresswell finished the game strongly.

Rice:8 Immediately pressed Arsenal and won the ball twice within the first minute. Rice tried his very best. Won the ball back then quickly gave the ball to Paqueta who won a penalty. Impressive performance.

Soucek:6 Poor Soucek was a bystander for much of the first 30 mins but he won some crucial headers and tackles. The goals might have deserted him but he was in full warrior mode.

Paqueta:7 Clever first touch and movement to win West Ham a penalty. Poor start to the first half but like most of the team finished the first 45 strongly. Always looking for the killer pass. Almost gave Arsenal a goal with a sloppy pass.

Bowen:8 Struggled as Arsenal overloaded the flank. Required to defend for long periods but finished the first half looking dangerous. Scored a fine goal in the 55 min as he was first to anticipate Kehrer’s lofted pass. Made a goal saving defensive header.

Bowen scores against Arsenal

Benrahma:6 Failed to track Ben White for Arsenal’s opener. Similar story for Arsenals second on 9 minutes. Dispatched a penalty clinically to bring the score back to 2-1. Fabulous ball for Bowen on 77 mins.

Antonio:8 Looked like having the beating of Ben White but it was all he could do to win a free kick such was his isolation in the first 20 mins. Missed a header from a set- piece, grew steadily in influence. Conceded a penalty for handball which Saka missed. At times caused havoc in the Arsenal back-line. Had a great chance to win the game in the 81st minute.

Downes: On for Paqueta as part of a double substitution.

Cornet: 87th min Sub for the exhausted Antonio.

Fornals: 90th min sub for Benrahma
