Jarrod Bowen was the obvious candidate to come under PlayerWatch reporter Danny Leach’s gaze today. Here’s his close up view of the new boy’s contribution.
5 – He receives the ball after Ngakia tackles Boufal but dribbles straight onto the path of Bertrand ahead of him
12 – Sees his shot blocked after Antonio plays a through ball into him
15 – GOAL – 1-0 – Fornals plays a great through ball to Bowen who turns inside the box to chip the keeper
19 – He slips the ball down the wing to Noble
22 – Receives the ball from Rice and cuts in on his left foot but his shot goes straight to the keeper
29 – Nutmegs Bertrand and dribbles forward before passing the ball in midfield
39 – Intercepts Boufals pass forward
59 – His cross is blocked but then chases Obafemi to win the ball back
67 – Turns on the inside and crosses to Ogbonna whos shot goes wide
69 – Presses really high and wins the ball as Bertrand tries to clear the ball
71 – Intercepts the ball on the edge of the area and dribbles up the pitch but his shot goes way over
77 – Met with a great round of applause as he is substituted for Snodgrass
Verdict – 8 – After a tremendous outing today we are all left wondering why Moyes had kept him on a leash in the previous games. Excellent performance in attack and defensively working hard and winning the ball back on numerous occasions. Certainly based on today’s performance a step above Snodgrass as he has got quick feet and able to skip past defenders with ease. Can’t wait to see more of him play.
