West Ham football police officer Andy Sheldon took to social media to host a Q&A session on Twitter today ahead of the start of the season in three weeks time with the return of supporters.

Sheldon confirmed ‘We will be policing [the London Stadum] in the same style as we always do, warm and friendly. We will still be wearing masks where the situation dictates.’

Asked whether the police will enforce any COVID restrictions Sheldon replied ‘Whatever COVID protocols are in place will be down to the club/Stadium [operators] to manage however if this escalates to disorder we will be there to assist in preventing breach of the peace or deal with any criminality. No other changes to the way we work, like everyone we may be a bit rough around the edges but looking forward to getting fans back safely’

Asked about the likelihood of COVID passports the Met Police Office replied “The club are still waiting for guidance and clarification from authorities on how the covid protocols across matches will look, As soon as they know and a decision is made then they will endeavour to let the supporters know.
Asked whether West Ham away supporters will be able to attend Newcastle away for the first game of the season Sheldon said “I know West ham have been asking Newcastle for confirmation of away tickets. I think a lot will depend on protocols put in place by the authorities”
