Premier League players could defer wages

With no agreement reached with the PFA to forgo all or part of their wages, players may look into a collective agreement to defer wages instead in a bid to  help clubs.

With an annual wage bill of three billion pounds per year, the twenty Premier League clubs are burning £58m per week with little coming the other way in revenue.

While other European league players have agreed to not draw wages during the current pandemic, the Premier League have no agreement in place.

Premier League clubs are haemorrhaging cash and deferring payments could be a short term solution assuming that the league resumes and all fixtures are played to conclusion.

Players represented by agents and lawyers believe existing contracts should be honoured if the season is finished and don’t why their clients should be financially disadvantaged .

Whether or not all players will agree with the proposal remains to be seen but they may have the option to vote on the proposal with their PFA trade body.
