Pundit reckons Irons missed a trick

Martin Keown says the Hammers should have tried to sign Tammy Abraham from Chelsea in the January window.

The Blues forward has been on the fringes of the first-team this season.

He has made just 12 starts for the club in the Premier League and has not played since the win over Southampton in February, when he lasted 45 minutes.

Part of that is down to injury but he was fit last weekend and was not included in the squad for the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City.

That has led to debate raging about his future, with the summer transfer window looming.

Abraham has scored six league goals this season and netted 15 last term, and Keown believes that the Irons would be a perfect landing spot for him.

However, he also thinks that the Irons should have made a move in January when it became clear Seb Haller was heading to Ajax.

Speaking to talkSPORT, as transcribed by HITC, he said: “(West Ham) would be the perfect move for him.

Should West Ham have done that (sign Abraham) when Sebastien Haller was allowed to leave in January?.

“West Ham are a little bit bare now at centre-forward. They haven’t got a centre-forward.”
