Radio head hints at unusual boardroom request

West Ham season ticket holder and head of TalkSport radio Lee Clayton has admitted he was once asked for advice in a football boardroom.

Without revealing which club Clayton revealed “A few years ago I was called into a boardroom and asked: “How do we turn around the headlines for our team?” “Win games,” was my answer.

“Hugely simplistic and it doesn’t solve deep rooted problems that require greater surgery and strategy from creative brains, but it helps.”

While the former Daily Mail journalist didn’t name West Ham he was known to have good relationships with the Hammers Vice-Chairman particular around the time of the Burnley pitch invasion and is a Hammers season ticket holder

Moments later after the first tweet, Clayton posted on Twitter “Some very positive West Ham articles and headlines this morning. It might not suit the mood of everyone on social media but the fervour ahead of the visit of the Champions is an enjoyable change. Similarities between the team Moyes built at Everton and this one. Hard work + talent”

Hours later after this article, Clayton posted update attempting to distance himself that he was talking about West Ham by saying “A boardroom. It wasn’t West Ham. Never been to the boardroom at the LS and once into Upton Park. And that was an odd experience a long time ago. Interesting how people deliberately mis-read or assume. My point is that winning can cover a multitude of sins with any club.”
