Niall McDonald hands out his ratings

Fabianski: A very quiet afternoon, the 2 goals aside 6
Fredericks: Pretty standard fare from Fredericks – a few moments of quality in the final third 6
Diop: Looking happier alongside Ogbonna 6
Ogbonnna: Another strong performance, plenty of physical defending against various opposition strikers 7
Cresswell: Lots of early crosses in the first-half 7
Rice: For once, not the standout midfielder! A good partnership with Soucek forming 7
Soucek: Showing himself to be a real asset – great eye for goal 8
Fornals: Another good game, spoiled a little by playing Newcastle onside for their 2nd 7
Lanzini: Not the player of 15-16, no question. His absence was felt after he was replaced by Noble though 6
Bowen: Works very hard; didn’t get many clear shooting chances today 6
Antonio: Great start and lively up front on his own again. Found it harder going after the break 7

Subs
Noble: Not exactly a substitution to change a game; slowed things down considerably. Unless that was the plan? 4
Yarmolenko: Yarmo, however, did make a positive impact for the 2nd game in succession 6
