Record signing puts previous spending in shade

West Ham paid a club record transfer fee £22m plus a further £4.4m of add-ons for 21-year old Centre back Issa Diop this week. Up to this week, Angelo Ogbonna was the record signing in the centre back role costing £9.6m from Juventus in 2015. The second highest transfer was Jose Fonte from Southampton for £8m in 2017 closely followed by Matty Upson from Birmingham for £7.5m in 2007.

Thomas Repka joined West Ham in Glenn Roeder’s tenure as manager, for a then club record fee of £5.5 million in September 2001. Winston Reid joined from FC Midtjylland for £4m in 2010 other centre back signing have included Rigobert Song £2.5m, Radoslav Kováč £3.3m, James Collins and Danny Gabbidon £3.5m Manuel da Costa £2.7m and Doneil Henry £1m.

Academy youth products are included James Tomkins, Reece Oxford, Reece Burke, Declan Rice and Josh Pask.

Loans have included Danny Collins, Roger Johnson, Emanuel Pogatelz and Tal Ben Haim.

Havard Nordveit was a free transfer later sold for a reported £7m to Hoffenheim. James Tomkins was sold for £10m to Crystal Palace in 2016.
