Bundesliga club Borussia Gladbach have released a statement to say they only found out about West Ham’s decision to activate the recall clause with their Sporting Director claiming they would still pursue a permanent deal for the English youngster and suggested the player wanted to stay in Germany.

The German club said on their official website “We were informed of their decision to activate the clause and recall him this morning,” said Gladbach sporting director Max Eberl on Friday. “However, we continue to be in talks with West Ham regarding Reece Oxford completing a permanent move to Borussia. It is also the player’s wish to stay at Gladbach.”

Reports persist that fellow Bundesliga side FC Leipzig could be preparing a bid which would see up to £12 million with add-ons worth another £8 million in an attempt to make an offer that West Ham might consider. A sell-on clause on might also be an option.
