Ref change for Lyon – we know this one well!

UEFA has confirmed that there will be a new referee in the middle for West Ham’s clash with Lyon in the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final.

Felix Zwayer was the man in the middle for the first leg at the London Stadium and turned in a hugely controversial performance.

Not only did he send off Aaron Cresswell, he also seemed to give a large portion of the game’s decisions towards the French club.

After the game, it emerged that Zwayer had also previously been banned from refereeing after allegations of match-fixing during his time in the German lower-leagues.

In the second leg, though, it will be Swiss referee Sandro Scharer taking charge.

Scharer may be a name that’s familiar to you and he should be, as he was in charge when the Hammers were beaten 1-0 by Sevilla in Spain.

He has also officiated in the Champions League this season, taking charge of three games, including RB Leipzig’s shock win over Manchester City, in which Kyle Walker was sent off.
