Remarkable Hammers spending claim

West Ham’s owners have taken plenty of stick down the years for both their lack of investment and the players they have bought.

But as things stand there can be few complaints about their involvement in the market financially this season where they will see the spending soar to around £200 million should Lucas Paqueta join the club.

And that will be huge in terms of financial investment and indeed make them the second biggest spenders in world football during this transfer market.

Claretandhugh has revealed over the past few days the extent of the club’s market involvement but Kaveh Solhekol has made quite remarkable claim  on Sky Sports.

The reporter did some quick calculations while on air during the Transfer Show.

He claimed that should the Paqueta, deal go through – as seems likely – it would make the Hammers the second highest spenders in world football this summer.

“I was just going to say on West Ham and the amount of money they’ve spent this window,” Solhekol said.

“I know David Moyes wants us to get the figures exactly right, sometimes it’s difficult to get the transfer fees exactly right.

But if we go by what Transfermrkt, the respected website, are saying – they’re saying at the moment the fifth biggest spenders in the window this summer are West Ham, and they say they’ve spent 139m Euros.

“The only clubs who have spent more than West Ham, according to Transfermrkt, are Chelsea, they’re top 202m Euros, then Barcelona 153, then Forest 148, then Manchester United 143, then West Ham 139.
