And with Michail Antonio suspended for the Chelsea game after a red card yesterday Carroll will be needed – if fit – in a big way.
According to The Sun co-chairman David Sullivan “authorised the sale of the striker at a board meeting earlier this month” before negotiations began with potential new clubs.
The three clubs were allegedly given permission to discuss the transfer of Carroll away from the London Stadium were Tianjin Quanjian, Hebei China Fortune and Shandong Luneng Taishan who were all keen on the player.
But it is believed negotiations hit a brick wall and the struggling striker will now remain with West Ham.
It now would seem that if any deal is going to happen it will need to wait until the summer.
