Spanish newspaper reports suggest Celta Vigo have made it clear once again that they will not let their Uruguayan goalscorer leave on the cheap claiming that both Valencia and West Ham have had offers rejected.

Spanish newspaper ‘El Faro de Vigo’ reported on Sunday that sources close to Celta  Vigo assure that the club has rejected an offer from both teams for Maxi Gomez. The La Liga side are doing all they can to hold onto him they claim.

Yesterday sources close to West Ham rejected a Sky Sports claim that a bid by them had been accepted confirming that a bid of around £25m had been made but crucially it had not been accepted. Another report today suggests negotiations with Valencia have also broken down. It is said Gomez himself would want assurances from Manual Pellegrini that he would be in the first team on a regular basis but personal terms cannot be agreed until a deal between Celta Vigo and West Ham can be agreed.

West Ham is likely to increase their bid to test Celta Vigo’s resolve and while they are unlikely to pay the £44.5m release fee they may try to do a deal at £35m or less.
