West Ham have reached an agreement over the signing of Alphonse Areola from PSG, per The Athletic.

The Hammers have been attempting to bring the France international into the club on a permanent deal.

And the report now states that the Hammers have agreed to pay £8m to sign him permanently.

West Ham also had the option of loaning him for another season but have instead opted to do a deal to bring him in on a permanent basis.

Areola is likely to eventually become No.1, ahead of Lukasz Fabianski, who is ageing.

Areola was primarily used as the cup goalkeeper last season, and played a key role in the club’s run to the Europa League semi-finals.

Newcastle and Fulham were also interested in signing the stopper but the Hammers have managed to secure a deal ahead of their Premier League rivals.

It remains to be seen who plays in goal when West Ham meet Manchester City on the opening weekend of the season.
