West Ham failed in their late bid to sign Standard Liège’s Samuel Bastien according to a report on Het Belang van Limburg

They claim the Hammers came in with a late bid for the 24-year-old midfielder and tabled an offer around €12m (£11m) for the Belgian player yesterday.

However, Standard Liège ‘refused’ the proposal as it was €8m (£7.3m) short of Standard Liège’s valuation of €20m (£18.2m)

Bastien, who primarily operates as a central midfielder, can also play as a defensive or attacking midfielder and has a contract until 2022. The Belgian side retains an option to extend it by a further 12 months. He managed five goals and four assists in all competitions last season, and has two goals in two matches this term,

David Moyes is known to want to a defensive midfielder and backup striker for cover in addition to a centre back.

Bastien joined Standard Liege from Chievo Verona in July 2018 for a July for a £2.7m transfer fee.
