Report: Hammers explore defender loan

West Ham are exploring a potential loan deal for Marseille defender Duje Caleta-Car, according to a new report from The Athletic.

The Hammers are certainly in the market to sign a new defender in this transfer window but are running out of time, with the transfer deadline looming in seven days.

The Irons are said to now be weighing up a move for the centre-back at the French club, but they are not inclined to sign him permanently, instead trying to bring him in on loan.

The Ligue 1 club, though, would like to sell the Croatia international as they look to raise funds to bolster their own squad.

He has a contract until the end of next season and has also been eyed by both Liverpool and Newcastle in this window.

We can see this one having some potential legs, particularly if Marseille are willing to acquiesce to a loan deal that wouldn’t break the bank.
