According to The Athletic, West Ham have already made contact with Greek side PAOK over a potential deal for striker Chuba Akpom, who started his career at Arsenal.

The report claims the Hammers were keen to bring Akpom in last summer, but in the end a deal failed to materialise.

Akpom is said to have wanted to see if PAOK qualified for the Champions League but they failed to make the cut having been dealt a difficult qualifier against last season’s semi-finalists Ajax, who beat them 5-4 on aggregate in two close-run legs.

Akpom has only started three league games for PAOK this season which will has led to huge frustration for the London-born player after featuring as the club’s main striker in 2018/19 last season.

The 24-year-old has scored 11 goals in 45 games for PAOK since joining from Arsenal in August 2018 and currently has 19 months to run on his current deal.

As per our earlier article with the role of Mario Husillos up in the air we are not sure how seriously we should take these early transfer rumours of contact and the such like.
