West Ham  are interested in signing Cagliari striker Giovanni Simeone.

The 25-year-old had a mediocre season in Serie A this past year, and he would be nothing more than a squad option for the Hammers.  According to Calciomercato, West Ham are offering €1 million to loan the player with the option of signing him permanently. However, the Italian outfit are not keen on the offer.

Initially joining Cagliari on loan from Fiorentina in the summer of 2019, he scored 12 Serie A goals during 2019-20.

Simeone was born in Madrid while his father was playing for Atlético Madrid. His family moved to Italy in 1997, but later returned to Spain in 2003 following his father’s career club changes.

Two years later he moved to Argentina, and joined River Plate’s youth setup in 2008 when his father was appointed coach of the first team. He holds both Argentine and Spanish nationality but represents Argentina internationally.

Simeone scored just six goals for Cagliari last season and one would hope David Moyes is searching for a forward who is more prolific. The manager has been relying on Michail Antonio for goals last season after Seb Haller was sold to Ajax in the winter transfer window.

The Irons will be playing in the Europa League next season from September and need options up front to challenge the defences in the European competition.

Simeone could be a useful signing as an additional squad player for cover but not as the main striker replacement.
