A report in a Portuguese newspaper Jornal de Notícias bizarrely claims that West Ham have offered Sporting Lisbon €30m (£27.2m) for both Adrien Silva and João Palhinha if the deal for William Carvalho can not be completed.

A Sporting Lisbon source told Jornal de Notícias that the rumour was ‘completely false’ but the paper have decided to stick by their story and printed it anyway believing there is something still in it.

28-year-old Spurs transfer target Silva was born in France to a Portuguese father and French mother, Silva first began training with Bordeaux before moving to Portugal and signing for Sporting. he once trained with Chelsea before Sporting Lisbon filed a complaint.

João Palhinha is a 22-year-old defensive midfielder. He arrived in Sporting when he was 17 years old from the third-tier Portuguese club Sacavenense. As soon as he arrived, and after playing his first games, he almost immediately guaranteed a starting place in Sporting Lisbon’s U18 team and started drawing attention from the senior team coaches.

Meanwhile Matt Lawless claims  in the Daily Mirror  “West Ham are ready to switch their attention to Porto midfielder Danilo Pereira amid frustration in their attempts to land top transfer target William Carvalho.”  he adds “after holding advanced talks with Sporting Lisbon, the deal has hit a stumbling block over increased demands from the Portuguese club.”
