West Ham United are this morning alleged to have abandoned plans to appoint a director of football with the club after David Moyes made it clear he wanted overall control of recruitment issues.

The Times, sadly like its sister paper The Sun  occasionally prone to misinformation – starts by reporting what we already know – that both club and the Scot believe he will be manager next season.

And they claim  he “has been involved in detailed discussions about the club’s structure since the director of player recruitment Tony Henry was sacked in February.”

During those discussions Moyes has made it clear that he would prefer to work without a director of football and take personal charge of the club’s transfer activity if he stays on.

Moyes took a hands-on approach during the January transfer window, with their only permanent signing, Jordan Hugill, arriving on his recommendation from Preston North End – not encouraging – but Moyes has since been allowed to appoint five scouts as part of an overhaul of the recruitment department according to the report.

It adds: “West Ham have indicated they are willing to accept Moyes’ approach and plan to discuss a new contract before the end of the season.

CandH will attempt to check the story out during the day!
