Report: Irons face competition as £60m bid readied

West Ham face serious competition in the race to sign Kalvin Phillips, according to a new report.

Aston Villa are said to be at the front of the queue to sign the midfielder from Leeds United, who rejected a bid from the Irons for the England international in the January transfer window.

Phillips has been struggling with injury this season but remains a key cog in Leeds’ midfield as they attempt to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

The Telegraph reports that Steven Gerrard’s side are ready to bid £60m to sign Phillips, as well as offering him a huge wage packet that would be worth up to £10m a season for the star.

Along with Villa and the Hammers, Newcastle are also said to be in the race to sign the 26-year-old ahead of a busy summer window.

Phillips has been with Leeds since 2015 and has made a total of 226 appearances for the club, playing for them in both the Championship and the Premier League.
