Report: Newcastle slap £30m price tag on Hammers target

Newcastle has slapped a £30m price tag on their captain Jamaal Lascelles according to reports.

The ex-Nottingham Forest centre-back has impressed on Tyneside over the course of the season and a number of Premier League clubs are believed to be keen on signing the 24-year-old. Chelsea, Everton and Liverpool have all been linked with a move for the defender ahead of next season.

Born in Derby, he began his career at Nottingham Forest, progressing through the club’s youth system. In 2011, Forest rejected a £5 million offer from Arsenal for him. He signed his first professional contract in March 2011. Lascelles made his first-team debut in January 2012. In 2014, Lascelles signed a contract with Newcastle United, As part of the deal, he was loaned back to Nottingham Forest for the 2014–15 season.

Speaking the Newcastle Chronicle Lascelles was quoted as saying “I’m very happy here. You hear things, you hear rumours and stuff, but I’m a young player and I need to be playing football at a good club – and that’s what this is. This is the right club for me at the right time. We have a huge fanbase, an amazing manager, and this club is massive. It has so much history.”
