Rice gets another big Three Lions vote

The accolades come so thick and fast for Declan Rice it’s becoming almost impossible to keep up with them.

It’s extremely fortunate that the young man has such a good head on his shoulders and shows a maturity beyond his years because otherwise all sorts of nonsense may follow.

What has become clear since he burst onto the scene is that his ego is well and truly under control as emphasised again on Saturday during his meeting with the great Billy Bonds.

Dec of course wasn’t born when the great man was in his pomp but went out of his way to make sure he shook the hand of the former captain and manager and had a conversation with him.

He has already experienced the social media trolling after his international decision and brushed it aside simply concentrating on his job.

Now pundit Ian Wright has made it clear what he thinks of the young man and where he stands in his England reckoning and it’s very hard indeed to disagree..

Wright – talking to BBC 5 Live Sport – said: “Yeah (I would put him in the England squad next week), it’s a position we’ve struggled to fill, we’ve not really got that player who can naturally do the role as good we’ve seen Declan Rice do at the minute.

“He’s better than the Eric Dier, especially in that position, of course. And plus Eric is not playing at the moment, unfortunately for him, but at the same time we’re talking of someone who is in top form at the minute, he’s ready to go.

“I say bring him and let’s have a look. He looks like he’s got everything. Comfortable on the left and right, sees danger, scores goals, we’ve seen him get forward and score goals, what are we waiting for?
