Declan Rice admits he’s “devastated” after West Ham’s late defeat to Crystal Palace.

The Hammers skipper was left frustrated by a game that saw Palace snatch it right at the death.

Michael Olise scored after cutting inside from the right flank, while Wilfried Zaha levelled after Said Benrahma’s stunning opener.

It was a performance that carried little to no threat from the Hammers, with precious few chances created, although Mikey Antonio did have a penalty shout overturned by VAR when he was taken down in he box.

Rice felt that the game was a must-win, as it leaves just the game against Leicester to go in the league before the World Cup.

Speaking after the game, as per BBC Sport, Declan said: “From the way I’m feeling and the way I saw the lads, I’m devastated. That was a game we had to win. Two big games before the World Cup and you lose one of them so you’re counting on the next game.

“In the last couple of years we’d have won a game like this and been comfortable in the table.”

Rice also felt that the fans who booed at the end of the game were perhaps right to do so, as he feels they have been a different team depending on whether they’re at home or away.

“It’s really frustrating. I feel like we’re two different teams. We can keep the ball for fun in some away games and then at home we look a different team. It’s been good in Europe but we’re too inconsistent in the Premier League.

“We’ll bounce back for sure.

“Fans can voice their opinions. They pay their hard-earned money. They’re probably right to boo us in a way because we weren’t’ good enough.”
