Former Hammer Rio Ferdinand says he is grateful that he was given time by West Ham staff and fans to make mistakes while at the club as a young player.

Speaking on his twitter account while watching Everton lose to Swansea this afternoon Rio said: “The Everton fans have got their young players in a nervous state here!! Looks like they wont allow them time to make mistakes & learn….”

“Makes me even more grateful that I was brought up at West Ham, where the fans & staff allowed for me to make mistakes while learning the game”

When challenged that he didn’t have the same pressure as John Stones in the media Rio added:

“Mate… you sure… I was hyped… The next Bobby Moore… Madrid & Barca interest etc…”

John Stones has been reported to be at the centre of a £50m transfer scramble this summer, with Real Madrid, Barcelona, Machester City and Chelsea all keen to sign him.
