David Gold believes a Hammers  FA Cup victory at Wembley would be entirely in keeping with the magic of the world’s greatest Cup competition.

For despite the fact that the tournament has been devalued financially down the years by the growth of the Premier League , it still maintains an aura all of its own as demonstrated last night when humble Exeter held Liverpool to a draw.

Gold, however, wants no such heroics from Championship outfit Wolves today – saying: “It would be quite incredible were we to win it – that would be forever written into ours and the FA Cup history, could there be anything more fitting.

He – like David Sullivan in an earlier exclusive piece here – is expecting the manager to put out his strongest side saying: “The fans expect it, we expect it and we will not sell the competition short.

He said: “In terms of finance you are right, the competition has lost some of it value but certainly not  in terms  of romance and this is a special season for us. We want to win it.

“It also provides a place in the Europa Cup and in terms of pride and excitement it’s a really big competition but we take nothing for granted and will give Wolves total respect.”
