Diafra Sakho is a man of few words these days and although he is becoming more and more a part of the Hammers story he clearly feels no need to prove anything to anybody. A goal and an assist against Cheltenham Town in the League cup was followed by an off the post assist for a Hernandez goal at Southampton followed by one of his own against Bolton and Saturday’s winner against Swansea City.
All this followed the piece of nonsense in France when attending a medical with Rennes whilst on Saturday after the game he was seen in his car with a bloke who claimed he’d saved the manager’s butt.
Sakho is very foolish to keep such company – especially when the bloke looks like a cartoon character from a sixties comic with a megamouth you’d like to punch.
But the important stuff came later in African Football when the striker declared: “It’s not easy to prove to the people what I can do on the pitch when I only play for 10 minutes.
But I don’t need to knock on the manager’s door – he knows what I can do, now I have to force my way into the team. I just want to enjoy being part of this team and we will see what happens in January.”
Personally I don’t think that needs much working out – he’ll be off and as a fan of his abilities I’ll be gutted.
Yes, he can be a right royal pain in the ‘arris, can probably stink the dressing room out with his attitude and could have a row in an empty room.
I understand why many loathe the sight of him and that others – like myself – reckon he remains the best striker at the club – it’s tough weighing such varying differentials.
There’s the remote chance he could get a run of games, score goals, prove his fitness once and for all (or not) and get a new deal but I don’t see it happening.
He needs to kick start his career with time ticking away. I really don’t see him becoming a regular starter so prepare to wave him goodbye and I think that’s what he was perhaps trying to tell us in those significant quotes to African Football.
The Sakho soap opera looks to be entering its final chapter.
