      EXCLUSIVE

West Ham boss Sam Allardyce looks set to launch winter window loan-signing Marco Borriello into action against Aston Villa.

Stunned by the outcome of the appeal into Andy Carroll’s red carding by Howard Webb against Swansea last Saturday, the Hammers boss is looking towards the Roma man to help him keep the team’s recovery on course after four points from the last two games.

The FA upheld referee Howard Webb”s decision to send Carroll off and there are now reports the Hammers are considering a High Court challenge.

Boriello, meanwhile, was having a 70-minute run out for the Development Squad as the club awaited the result of the FA hearing and looked in good form, hitting the foot of an upright from a free kick during a lively performance against Southend in a closed doors friendly.

And word from the training ground today is that he could well have lined up a place in Saturday’s squad although Carlton Cole is still favourite to start.

There may even be a start for Antonio Nocerino as the team look to take on a more defensive away approach and use the playmaker in their counter-attacking policy.

A source told Claretandhugh: “Marco looks good and the manager seemed impressed. He’s likely to be in the squad.”
