Robert Snodgrass has put club before country by withdrawing from the Scotland international squad.

Although he hasn’t been used extensively at international level he would clearly have had a chance of appearing in next Saturday’s international against Albania.

The 31 year old has been an essential part of Manuel Pellegrini’s teams this season so far with the midfield in particular being badly hurt by injuries.

And such is his work rate and endeavour he may well feel that he will benefit from a rest from action and be ready if wanted for the high profile match against Manchester City in a fortnight’s time.

His withdrawal was initially believed to have been through an unspecified injury but that was denied by a top Hammers insider close to the squad when talking to ClaretandHugh on the telephone this morning.

He said: “Robert is fine but he has made the choice to put his club first and has agreed that with Scotland. He needs the break but he’s just ok for Huddersfield.”
