Someone’s thrown a scarf – “Call the police!”

Tony Gale has talked about the London Stadium becoming a powder keg.

Tony Cottee has claimed that if something isn’t done about the situation he fears a return to the dark days of hooliganism.

I have no problem at all with former players earning a few quid from the media but those remarks were way over the top given that what we saw last Wednesday evening was little more than a shower of coins without a single punch traded.

Oh somebody threw a scarf. Blimey “Call the police!”

Both TG and TC are admirable men who have featured on this website at various times and they are guys for whom we have great admiration.

However, I want to believe that perhaps they have been carried along with all the hype driven by a media machine which knows no limits once the foot is put down.

I don’t like to be critical of our own but at what is a very sensitive time I’m not sure that bandying such words around is overly helpful.

I will not downplay the events of Wednesday evening but if I am entirely honest I believe it has been very much a storm in a teacup not helped by mobile phones with inbuilt cameras, Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.

The club has this morning announced new security measures which look likely to take care of the issues so perhaps it might be a good idea for everybody to let those who have an intimate knowledge of the problems to get on with it.

We’ve all had a say one way or another – now let’s get on with the football.
