Soucek availability still in doubt

Tomas Soucek remains a doubt for West Ham’s first Premier League against Newcastle on Saturday.

The confirmation one way or another is likely to come later this week when David Moyes gives his first pre-match interview.

There are reports the Hammer came into direct contact with a Czech republic national team masseur who has tested positive to Covid19 while receiving a massage on international duty.

He was immediately withdrawn from international and entered self-quarantine as required. News about Soucek broke on 3rd September so if contact occurred on 2nd it would leave Soucek in quarantine until 16th, four days after the first game.

Czech manager David Holoubek has named a new 24-man squad for the game in Oloumuc after a team masseuse tested positive for Covid-19 losing 2-1 to Scotland on Monday.

The Hammer is understood to have tested negative three times for Covid-19 but Claret and Hugh understand he is still obliged to follow Czech 7-day self-isolation rules rather the UK 14 day self-quarantine period meaning he could be allowed to play on Saturday.

Elite sports, TV and film men and women are exemption from British quarantine rules when returning from non air bridge countries but this is unclear on players coming into direct contact with someone who later tests positive.
